LOCAL AREA
Heighington Village

Heighington Village has a rich history, with evidence suggesting that a settlement has existed there since around 400 AD. The name "Heighington" likely has Anglo-Saxon origins, indicating the village's long-standing presence in the region.

The village is noted in the Boldon Book of 1183, the northern equivalent of the Domesday Book. This historical record emphasizes Heighington's significance during that period.

For many years, the village's life revolved around the village green. A wall and gate once enclosed this central area, providing protection for the residents and their grazing animals, highlighting the village's focus on community safety and agricultural practices.
